On April 7th, Sookmyung Community changed. It is now named ‘SnoWe.’ According to Sookmyung Women’s University (SMU)’s Information Officer Kim Duckhyun, the person in charge of ‘SnoWe,’ Sookmyung Community decided to change its name due to student needs, social issues, and a security problem. To address student needs, Sookmyung Community was established in September 2002. However, there were few actual changes to the portal site after its relaunching. Thus, the Department of Information Operations decided to restructure the Community to follow the times and updated its Internet explorer versions. In addition to social issues, physically-challenged and senior citizen prohibition laws were passed, so Community needed to add a screen reader that helps people who are visually impaired. Moreover, there was a security problem. Department of Information Operations admitted that the current security system was out-of-date and that the security program version needed upgrading. Commenting on changes, Lee Songyeon, Department of Multimedia Science ’14 said, “The changes are not big, but it is clear the Community is now neatly organized. The newly structured Community is now separated into several parts and presents more concrete information.” SnoWe now segregates its notice board and has a modified main operating system.
