Everything new and important that happens to people every day evokes emotions. Sometimes people feel unfamiliar emotions, and they can only fully understand themselves when they face their various emotions. So, we need to practice looking into and accepting our emotions. An SMT Reporter would like to introduce the exhibition "INSIDE ME SEASON 2: Facing Emotions" that allows you to explore and face complex emotions that humans can feel.
Feelings following everything
"INSIDE ME SEASON 2: Facing Emotions" is an experiential exhibition, consisting of installation art by a total of five artists: Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Ji-hoon, Bang Hyo-bin, Chae Beom-seok, and Han Seung-han. Each installation piece that contains the artist's intended emotions conveys those emotions that people have turned away from. What is special about this exhibition is that visitors can read poetry on the walls throughout the exhibition, provided by Morning Moon, a professional poetry publisher. The poetry displayed everywhere plays a role in maximizing the magnificent atmosphere of the exhibition. The key to this exhibition is to follow the lines of movement while looking at the works. In "INSIDE ME SEASON 1: Finding My Lost Emotions," which was the first exhibition in the INSIDE ME series, each artist attempted to discover hidden emotions inside themselves, while this second exhibition allows visitors to face deeper self-observation and inner emotions. This exhibition invites visitors to face the hidden emotions inside them.

The maze within oneself
The exhibition is divided into individual spaces according to each emotion and unfolds as visitors move through. The beginning theme of the exhibition is "Pressed Emotions" with PLOUD, the work of artist Han Seung-han. PLOUD visualizes the imagination of rising above the sky after discarded plastic has evaporated from Earth, which has become as hot as Venus due to environmental pollution. Through this work, visitors can get a glimpse of the relationship between nature and humans, the limitations of resources, and the contradictions of consumption culture that Han Seung-han was originally interested in. With this piece, the artist has tried to make visitors think deeply about how their current choices affect the future. The next theme "Dry Emotions" has sand on the floor to match the theme. Mirrors are scattered throughout the exhibit, inviting visitors to check in with their inner selves. On the sand, several expressions such as "breathtaking," and "joyful" are illuminated, to give some time for visitors to think about the emotions with calm background music. Next comes "Wave Emotions," in which ever-changing lights and mirrors surrounding the space focus the flow of emotions. In this space, just as paint gradually spreads on paper, individual viewers' emotions gradually spread, allowing them to find their own colors. This immediately leads to "Crowding Emotions." This space has an intuitive screen that catches one's eyes and through the sound of waves filling the space, viewers are captivated by the feeling of being submerged.
The next space is "The Light," which consists of the works of Bang Hyo-bin and Chae Beom-seok. Bang Hyo-bin's work represents a circle by rolling colorful metal lines, and the artist's O-ring series shows the process of exploring the source of connection and meaning through a small ring. Through the O-ring series, the artist emphasizes the value of bonds, exchanges, and relationships in our lives. Chae Beom-seok's work shows the intention to capture a near-future aesthetic with cool and high saturation. This work shows the intention to actualize a shape in which aggregated energy explodes, and he has tried to express the shape expressed in his own mind. After that, on the next space of facing emotions, there are rooms where the voice in the headphones asks questions to guide people to look into their emotions. Finally, the exhibition ends when the emotions of the individual's inner feelings are summarized as they pass through the space of empathy.
Rating: ★★★★☆
This exhibition is an experiential type where visitors can listen to songs and write with headphones on along the divided space, but it is a little disappointing that visitors who are struggling cannot easily get help during the experience. However, it is recommended for those who want to spend some time thinking deeply about themselves and their inner emotions.
