On March 24th, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m, Vice President of Korean National Commission for UNESCO, Park Eunkyung, lectured to Sookmyung Women’s University students at the Samsung Convention Center in Centennial Hall. The lecture was hosted by the Leadership General Education Institute, and the topic of her lecture was ‘Water Resources and Sustainable Development.' In her talk, Vice President, Park discussed the conflicts among countries and other matters that were a direct result of a lack of water. At the same time, she also offered solutions for sustainable development in the upcoming years. She said, “Every woman in the world spends more than 2 billion hours a day to get the water. If you are a woman, you surely have great interest in water. Through this lecture, I hope, you see the multiple properties of water such as its social, political, and intellectual parts. Water is basis for human life; it is a human right to have access to water. When you use water, please use it seriously and wisely.” After the lecture, Lee Hyunjoo, Department of Mathematics ’11, who attended the special lecture, said “Through today’s lecture, I learnt about the multiple properties of water. Also, I realized the seriousness of water shortages. I'll change my attitude towards water.”
