On November 17th, the commencement ceremony for students in the Korean Language Program was held at Gemma Hall from 9:30 a.m.  to 11 a.m.  Students who complete the Korean Language Program during the Fall Semester received their diplomas and celebrated the end of their studies immediately after their program is complete.  The commencement ceremony began with an opening speech by a guest professor of the program.  After watching class group photos, diplomas were presented to representatives from each class.  There was a loud applause when prizes were handed out to students with perfect attendance.  After formalities, there were special student activities like singing Korean songs and playing Korean drums, Janggu.  The activities lasted about an hour and made everyone very festive.  Lee Soyoung, guest professor from Lingua- Express at Sookmyung Women’s University, said, “Students who enroll in the Korean Language Program attend 20 hours of lectures a week over a 10-week period.  I am very proud of their outstanding results, especially students who managed to attend each and every class.  I want to extend a warm congratulatory message all students.”  Lee also said that the commencement ceremony also attests to the rich desire by foreigners to understand and appreciate Korea and Korean culture.
