From March 3rd to 17th, 2017, the main library at Sookmyung Women’s University hosted an event for first year students. The library ran two programs: ‘First Years Students Fall in Love with the Library’ and ‘Library Tour with SMARTeer’. The purpose of these programs is to make first year students comfortable with using and visiting the library. ‘First Years Students Fall in Love with the Library’ ran the entire day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. As first year students travelled about the library, they received stamps from various stations. Anyone with five or more stamps received a small gift from the library. In order to obtain a stamp, students had to perform various tasks at various places throughout the library such as borrowing a book, using the Lee Kyungsun DICA plaza, and reserving a reading room. SMARTeer is a leadership group at Sookmyung Women’s University that hosts library events and its members volunteer at the main library. Any Sookmyungian interested in learning more about the library and its operations can reserve a tour in advance and a group member will provide an explanation on facilities and services of the main library, how to borrow a book, and how to search for articles. According to Lee Hyojin, the leader of SMARTeer, “These programs are rewarding experience for SMARTeer members because members not only get a chance to meet newcomers to the campus, they also get the chance to detail the benefits and advantages of using the library." Kim Yejin, Department of Computer Science’ 17, participated in one of the library programs. She said, “If I hadn’t participated in the program, I wouldn’t have known how to borrow a book or even which area of the library I should visit to get what I need.”
