On September 1, 2018, the ‘2018 Sookmyung Open Campus’, a program for student, was held. The program gave 1,000 middle and high school students the opportunity to experience a major they are considering at university. Participants would then listen to various professors’ lectures, receive undergraduate departmental consultations, attend admissions officers’ workshops, join an engineering experience(PRIME Project Group). All lectures were held at Myungshin Building and 22 diff erent departments on campus opened lectures to the students. Indeed, 38 undergraduate students of Sookmyung Women’s University from various departments came to consult these possible future Sookmyungians and these consultation sessions took place in the Multicomplex Hall. Students went to Queen Sunheon Building for the admissions workshop, where they learned how to write a proper letter of self-introduction. In the Queen Sunheon Building square, booths were set up for students to experience an engineering activity, take photos, and more. The engineering activities included experiencing virtual reality(VR) and use of a 3D pen with PRIME supporters. The activities were so popular that students were seen waiting for several minutes outside the booth. One PRIME supporter, Shin Dongsun, Department of Computer Science ’17 said, “I volunteered for the program because I’m a PRIME supporter. I’m surprised at the number of interested students who visited our booth to enjoy a VR experience in spite of the hot weather." Participant satisfaction with the program was also very high. Park Seoyoen and Kim Ahhyun, 1st graders at Youngbok Women’s High School said, “It was a very precious experience for high school students like us because we rarely have the chance to experience VR. This program has surely helped me decide my career path.” Like their comment, the ‘2018 Sookmyung Open Campus’ was valuable experience for middle and high school students who dreamed of experiencing studying at university. They learned about a particular major and documents necessary for admissions, so programs like these should be more often in the future, for they can attract nationwide talent to Sookmyung.
