The 4th Sookmyung English Debate Competition will be held in October and November. There are two topics in this year’s competition. One is ‘Resolved that attendance checks in university courses should be abolished’ and the other is ‘Resolved that dual citizenship should be allowed in Korea.’ With orientation being held at 5:00 P.M. on October 1 in Centennial Hall room 505, the period of application for the competition and acceptance of essays will take place from October 2 to October 7 in Centennial Hall room 106.
Primary selection and announcements will happen on October 13 and the workshop for those selected will begin at 3:00P.M. on October 17. The first and second rounds of the debate competition will take place from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on November 1. As a result, the semi-final and final debate will be held on Saturday, November 8.
The competition offers a lot of prizes for the victors. The team who wins first prize will get 1,000,000 won, and the second prize will be 600,000 won. The third prize, for two teams, is 300,000 won each, and there are fourth prizes of 200,000 won for four teams each. Hence, the total value of prize money is 3,000,000 won.
