The 15th Sookmyung Cheongpa Composition Contest

he 15th Sookmyung Cheongpa Composition (Writing) Contest was held on Wednesday, October 8th, from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. in an octagonal pavilion in Hyochang Park. The Head Professor of the Department of Korean Language & Literature Lee Chin A said, “Ever since the 1960s, the Sookmyung Cheongpa Composition Contest has been held every year by our department. In the past, we took the students to more of the outdoor places such as Changdeok Palace, but now we hold the contest in Hyochang Park which is just nearby our school. Every student gets the opportunity to participate in the contest regardless of those student’s major. Also, October is in the season of autumn, which provide the perfect atmosphere for the students to write and fall into literary mood.” Anyone who participates in the contest receives attendance recognition, and among them, the judges select 4 people to award with book coupons. This time the main theme for the writing was ‘seclusion.’ A student interviewee said, “I think ‘seclusion’ is an appropriate theme at this season of autumn; also, I’m happy to write a composition being surrounded by the beautiful scenery. However, I regret the fact that there are only a small number of participants here. Next time, I hope to see more Sookmyungians to have the confidence in writing compositions and participate actively.” A great way to discover your literary skills?
