At 11 a.m. on 16 April, a groundbreaking ceremony for the new dormitory took place in. The event was attended by Hanil E & G Construction Company representatives and by Sookmyung Women’s University professors. The main event was President Kyungsook Lee’s opening address. She said, “The new dormitory means the start of the 101th anniversary of the opening of SMU. Next year, our students will be able to use high‐technology in a pleasant dormitory.”
The new dormitory will be completed by next July 31. It will take seventeen months to complete the construction. When complete, the new buildings will be seven stories high with two basement levels. The dormitories will have a dining room, bedrooms, break room and an atrium.
