Failure Is My Power

Maybe the word ‘failure’ is familiar but hard to empathize for university students.  Most of them feel afraid to failure as to think one failure is equal to everlasting loss.  The fear of failure is as strong as the desire for success.  J.K. Rowling said about her failed life before the Harry Potter series made all over the world enthusiastic.  However, paradoxically she underlined the benefits of failure talking about a big present from failure.  She never said failure is fun.  However, she came to know herself more and to have confidence that she could survive with wiser and stronger ability.  Failure teaches us that the thing we can’t get from other ways, so this is really precious present.  Funnily enough, because the greatest fear had been released, you can be set free.  The message she wanted to tell us was like that.  “Personal happiness lies in knowing that life is not a check-list of acquisition or achievement.  Your qualifications, your CV, are not your life.” In a whole life, nobody can avoid failure.  Maybe it is possible to live without failing at something if you live so cautiously and carefully, but Rowling said that life is not alive.  Doing nothing because of a fear of failure is failure itself.

New Ability of Imagination

Today when a man’s imagination becomes to be real deserves to be called imaginary generation.  Maybe the most difficult and cranky ability that contemporary society requires to us is a creative spirit from imagination.  Rowling too was a person who said about the importance of it.  However the value of imagination she thought was different from our thought.  She said, “the strongest thing with imagination is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared, however most prefer not to exercise their imaginations at all.” About such attitude, Rowling spoke with emphasis to use your imagination in sympathizing with others, saying that an action to choose otherwise was to enable real monsters.  She said, “We do not need magic to change the world.  We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.” Magic is not a difficult thing.  Magic is the ability to get present from failure and to imagine your neighbor.
