On September 2nd, the Social Service department at Sookmyung Women’s University held a Social Service Briefing Session to introduce its objectives and programs to Sookmyungians, who enrolled in the course Social Service.  The Social Service Briefing Session was set up to introduce students to course expectations in order to pass.  The event was held from 2p.m. to 4p.m. in the Queen Sunheon Building Hall.  At the event, Song Jiho lectured to Sookmyungians on the why and how of social service.  Jo Jongsuk, Head of Social Services, said, “Because credit is now allotted to students enrolled in the course Social Service, students may rest at ease knowing their volunteer service work is going to be rewarded with school academic credit.  They will also nurture a proper attitude towards volunteer work, which was the main objective of this event."  In addition, from this semester, Social Services will offer online education courses on Snow Board because a number of students said they are unable to participate in offline courses prior to engaging in the volunteer work due to time scheduling and the like.  Students unable to join the on-campus preparation lectures will be required to watch 5 uploaded Snow Board videos and submit a reflection report after watching the videos.  The other difference will be that students who opt to listen to the online courses will not be receive volunteer hours for those hours while students who attend the on-campus lectures will receive two service hour volunteer hours.  The preparatory lectures offer students the chance to learn about volunteering and the purpose for the course Social Service before actually engaging in the course.
