Relationships are the most important things in life. Individuals have various relations with others around them, and most people know that the world is comprised of diverse people. Nevertheless, when a person feels someone is different from him/her, distance is kept. There is a unique club that has no bias against all peoples and endeavours to have good relationships with physically and mentally challenged people. The Sookmyung Times (SMT) met with Jang Taesan (JANG), representative of the bathing club, “Happy Bubble,” to hear what he had to say about the club.
Once in Korea, there was a heated debate about whether it is appropriate to give extra credits for men who served in the military. Some supported the idea, but the other protested about it, asserting that it would be another implement to discriminate against women in the work force. However, now, a new legislation agenda that seems to be opposite to the veteran extra point system has risen. On April 16th, Shin Uijin who is a congresswoman of Saenuri Party motioned a bill to give extra-credits to mothers. The details of this bill is that the public institutions and companies with certain amount of capital should give more credits to mothers, who once gave up their vocation to raise their children, and now seeks to get re-employed. While some believe that it can be considered a way to improve women’s working conditions, others think it as a reverse discrimination or a negative impact on women. The Sookmyung Times asked SMU students about their opinions about whether it is right to give certain amount of credits to mothers when they try getting employed.

We watch films in theaters, as visual aids in lectures, or at home. Yet, have you ever thought of making one? There is a group of passionate activators who are making films themselves and holding their own film festivals. The Sookmyung Times (SMT) met the club’s representative Yun Jinyoung and Lee Eunjeong (KUFCA) to learn KUFCA’s free spirit and hear their thoughts.
After entering the universities, all students come to experience team assignments (group work). Some people say that one of the various differences between university and high school is whether the team assignment is done or not. However, can we all agree that team assignments are necessary work for us? Through the team assignment, you can learn cooperation and new thought that you couldn't have before, or you can meet and have new friends who have different majors. On the other hand, we can see also that so many students complain about team assignments: for example, “Although it was a team assignment, I did it alone from research to presentation. However, every team member got the same grade.” In April when the assignments overflow, how do you prepare your team assignment?
How about going to the State University of New York in Song-do, Incheon? And how about going to FAU (Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg), a German University, in Busan? Going to aforeign university in Korea is becoming a reality! The Ministry of Education & Science Technology made a measure that foreign education organizations can come to Korea freely. This is because great universities are making foreign branch schools expansively and many countries compete to hold those branch schools, so our government decided to try to occupy the global education service industry. Our government supports those foreign branch schools to lease their sites and buildings. Plus, those schools can be given 1 million dollars per a year. However, there are those who oppose this movement. Opponents insist that the fact which foreign branch schools are held is not sure. Now, the certain thing is just the State University of New York, in Song-do, and the other schools are not correct that they can come in Korea. Moreover, our real estate market is not good, so foreign schools are difficult to come in. For that reason, the Sookmyung Times researched our SMU students’ opinions on inviting foreign universities to Korea.

The Thieves, Kwanghye, Transformers. Can you realize the common factor between them? They are famous for the monopoly of movie screens. Before the movie Pieta picked up the Venice Film Festival’s top prize, the Golden Lion, only a few theatres ran the movie. The director of Pieta, Kim Ki-Duk criticized this phenomenon saying, “Small movies are unable to get a chance to screen and are dying out in this market.” On the other hand, according to the statistics by Realmeter, 45% of the audience is against establishing a rule to limit the monopoly. Let’s examine this phenomenon deeply and find out why there exists a controversy regarding regulation of the big screen monopoly...
