From September 11th to 13th, the 1st Dance Contest & Conference for elementary, middle, and high school students was held at Sookmyung Art Center. The dance competition was hosted by the Department of Dance at Sookmyung Women’s University. Dancers of all ages under 19 attended the event to experience being on stage and challenge their dream. Students could choose to participate in one of two divisions: ballet or modern dance. On the 11th, students practiced for their performances, which were to be held starting the following day. The ballet competition was held on the 12 while students who major in modern dance performed on stage on the 13th. Participations could show off their dance talent and dance scouts could learn new dance directions of young people leading our dance future. Kim, who participated in the ballet division said, “I was really happy to gain experience on stage. I had never performed on such a wide stage. I felt nervous, but it was a really valuable experience for my dance career.” The person in charge of the contest & conference said, “We held the dance contest and conference to give young dancers the chance to widen their view of the dance world. When we first planned the conference, we also hoped to scout young talented dancers. Our hopes came true as we saw find great dancers at the event.”
