On November 6, 6.p.m., the foundation anniversary of SMNEWS, was held at Sookmyung Women's University Prime Complex in room 105. The Sookmyung Weekly was first published in 1955 and this year it celebrated 65 years of publication. The Sookmyung Times was first published in 1973 and at the same event celebrated 48 years in the media business. The event is typically attended by all reporters of SMNEWS, but this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only a limited number of reporters were allowed to participate in the event. The event was attended by President Chang Yunkeum, Director Professor Shim Sookyoung, Song Yoonsun, Dean of Student Affairs, Kim Yonghwa, Dean of General Affairs & Management, and a limited number of reporters from The Sookmyung Weekly and The Sookmyung Times. The ceremony began with an opening address by Director Professor Shim Sookyoung, and then a second speech by President Chang Yunkeum. President Chang said, "Writing skills are very important, and you have such skills." She also gave congratulatory messages to all reporters. Next, Lee Yumin, Editor-in-Chief of The Sookmyung Weekly and Lee Hyunmin, Editor-in-Chief of The Sookmyung Times gave short speeches of welcome. In particular, Lee Hyunmin praised reporters for all their hard work in the unusual circumstances of 2020, saying that it was a difficult year because reporters had to make major changes to scheduling due to COVID-19. After their speeches, President Chang awarded several individuals the 'Reporter of the Year' award. This year's awards were won by Kim Jiseon, Woman Section and Academic Section Editor of The Sookmyung Weekly, and Ha Yura, Culture Section Editor of The Sookmyung Times. Both award recipients expressed gratitude to their fellow reporters saying, "I accept this award on behalf of all the effort of all reporters." Once the award ceremony had ended, a cake cutting ceremony and photography session were held, which then marked the end of the event. This year's foundation anniversary ceremony was recorded and videos were sent to reporters who could not attend.
