Study method workshop for freshmans

Sookmyung Women's University's Center for Teaching and Learning held a study method workshop to provide useful information to freshmen. The workshop could be signed up through Snoway, and students watched videos uploaded to Snowboard's online classroom. The second of three workshop topics, Smart Study Methods, which was available from February 8 to March 4, focused on explaining the types of courses at SMWU and how students can find and take courses in their areas of interest. The lecturer, Lee Jeong-eun, a research professor, began by introducing SMWU's three types of lectures: general lectures, creative convergence classes and online-based classes. Among them, she focused on creative convergence classes and online-based classes with the former being taught primarily through Problem-Based Learning (PBL). These classes, which are divided into PBL1 and PBL2, focus on enabling students to formulate, test, and frame their own hypotheses about specific problems. This allows students to improve their problem-solving skills as well as their basic knowledge of the major. As an advanced version of PBL1, PBL2 allows students to apply their problem-solving skills in the real world. For the latter, Adaptive Learning (AL), which is an online-based class, organizes a course's content according to the student's learning level and interests. This is done by conducting a diagnostic assessment at the beginning of the class to analyze the learner's prior learning level, topics of interest, or major, and then providing a customized course according to the professor's judgment based on the results of the analysis. After explaining these different types of courses, the lecturer concluded by mentioning the importance of discovering the type of course and learning method that suits one's needs. Heo In-seo, Department of Consumer Economics '24, who watched this lecture, said, "As I am a freshman, I didn't exactly understand the contents in the syllabus, but this lecture gave me tips on how to get started and how to adapt to university classes more easily and quickly." The study method workshop provided freshmen with valuable information that they could use before taking an actual course.
