Professor of food and nutrition, Han Young-sil (Han) was selected as the 17th President of Sookmyung Women’s University (SMU), following the 16th President Kyungsook Lee, on June 30. President Han completed her Ph.D. at SMU in 1990 and started teaching students at SMU when she was appointed in 1997. She held several major positions such as Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation Superintendent, General Affairs Superintendent and Academic Affairs Superintendent for six and a half years and learned how to manage the university.
After being appointed, Han said, “I want to produce the best brains in women who have thinking power. Throughout the reorganization of the school system, I will make the university enhance the thinking power of students by focusing on the liberal arts based on the humanities, philosophy, and sociology. Moreover, I will widen our specialized strategies such as leadership education and reform of each of colleges and differentiate SMU."
