I am a sophomore but there are still many things that I don’t know about our university.  I want to enjoy my university life much more than now and benefit as much as I can as a Sookmyungian.  Below is a summary of the special favors that I can receive.

There are many special benefits that you can get as a Sookmyungian.  The Sookmyung Times (SMT) has divided them into four parts.

 01. Relish Cultural Life

• Movies

Film Theater at DICA PLAZA

In the Film Theater at the DICA PLAZA , in the Main Library, you can watch a different movie every week, with screenings every weekday at 2 P.M. and 7 P.M. during the semester.  High quality artistic and unusual movies are screened such as “Copying Beethoven”, “Mozart and The Whale,” and “Doctor Zhivago.”

Auditorium in Queen Sunheon Building

Also, in the Auditorium in Queen Sunheon Building , a new movie (a few months after the first release) is shown once a week during the semester.  'Step Up 2: The Streets,' 'Speed Racer,' and 'An Eye for an Eye, a Tooth for a Tooth' have all been screened before.  Of particular note, the screen is as big as in a movie theater so you can feel that you are in a real cinema.

 • Exhibitions

 Moon-Shin Art Gallery

Sookmyung Women's University (SMU) opened the Moon Shin Art Research Center in June of 1999 in order to build a museum for the world-class sculptor Moon Shin, and prepared a new space by completing the Renaissance Plaza B1 and B2.  Recently, an exhibition entitled ‘1948~2008 Moon-Shin Art 60’ was held to commemorate his exhibition history of the last 60 years.  (http://sookmyung.ac.kr/~moonshin/)

Chung-Pa Gallery, Light Gallery

These are located on the first floor of Renaissance Plaza and continuously host various kinds of art exhibitions.  Last month, the 102nd Anniversary of the College of Fine Arts , Division of Design Graduation Works Exhibition was held from October 1 to 23.

The Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum

This museum is an exhibition space as well as an education and research facility dedicated to advancing the knowledge and appreciation of embroidery and textile arts which was inaugurated in May 2004 by SMU.  The museum's permanent collection, primarily focused on East Asian costume and decorative arts, ranks among the most comprehensive of its kind in Asia , and its wide scope serves to illuminate the cross-cultural dialogues in technique and style that have enriched textile arts worldwide.  It is located on the first floor of Renaissance Plaza .

 SMU Museum

The museum opened in June of 1971 with about 300 articles from the SMU collection.  The museum's collection is based on culture, art, archaeology, anthropology, ethnology, and especially on the study of women's living history.  It is located on the first floor of Renaissance Plaza .  These museums and galleries are open from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday to Saturday during the semester.  (http://museum.sookmyung.ac.kr/)

02. Remember Essential Information

 Health Care Center

If you are a Sookmungian, you can receive medical treatment and buy medical supplies at the Health Care Center which is located in Queen Sunheon Building , B1.  Its merits are that it is on campus and costs of consultation and medicine are very cheap.  Also, beds are provided for sick students for an hour’s rest.  You can buy medical supplies from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. and see a doctor until 5:30 P.M. every weekday during the semester except during lunch time, which is from noon to one p.m.  (http://health.sookmyung.ac.kr/)

 • Law Library, Music Library

Most students don’t know that there are other libraries besides the Main Library.  There is a Law Library on the first floor of the VeritasBuilding which contains many books and materials about law.  A total of 290 seats are reserved for Sookmyungians who look forward to studying somewhere agreeable.  It is open from 9 A.M. to 10 P.M. on weekdays and from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Saturdays during the semester.

The Music Library, which possesses lots of books, CDs and music scores is located in the College of Music Building, room 206.  It is open from 9 A.M. to 10 P.M. on weekdays during the semester.

 03. Take a Rest Here

 • Road with Stones

Do you think there is no great place on the SMU campus?  If so, how about going to the wide road in front of Centennial Hall?  A beautiful road with special quality stones is waiting for you.  When you feel tired because of overwhelming assignments, visit this area for a while and air yourself.

 • The Roof Garden

Most Sookmyungians have taken at least one course in the Queen Sunheon Building .  However, just a few students know about the secret garden on its 6th floor.  When you open the door and step out, you will be surprised by that place; it is a fully natural green space covered with trees, flowers and grass.  You can a take rest by sitting on benches.  Moreover, a complete view of Chung-Pa dong opens out before your eyes.

 04. Earn Money During Your Remaining Time

 • Administration Internship Program

Many Sookmyungians are interested in part-time jobs to earn money by themselves.  For you, SMT recommends the Administration Internship Program at SMU.  AT the beginning of every semester, SMU recruits interns who work for the University for 6 months (or more).  First, students send application and then through interviews they can get a chance to work as interns.  The scholarship given to administration interns is 4500 won per hour and students work a maximum of 200 hours per semester.  To get information about the recruitment of administration interns, you should look at the notices on the SMU homepage at the beginning of semester.  By using your remaining time and saving commuting time, you can earn money working as an intern.
