500 Sookmyungians benefit from Sookmyung School Expenses Support Scholarship

Because of the bad economic situation in Korea, last year SMU made the official announcement of freezing tuition fees for 2009. SMU also announced that it would expand the amount of scholarships awarded by 300%, especially for those students who are in straitened circumstances. In accordance with this policy, a new scholarship was enacted. According to the Student Culture and Welfare Team, the name of this scholarship is the Sookmyung School Expenses Support Scholarship and 500 students will receive this special scholarship. Students applied from January 23, 2009 to February 9 and the beneficiaries will be selected on March 6, 2009. According to Seo Young-ae of the Student Culture and Welfare Team, the most important factor in selection standards is the financial circumstances the student is in. Another thing to notice is that the scholarship can’t be carried forward to next semester when beneficiary students are temporarily absent from school. The amount of money that each student will receive is 2,000,000 won.
