On September 5th, 2011, SMU’s history was reborn. It is located in Centennial Hall’s first floor. Sookmyung Women’s University was founded by the Joseon Dynasty as women’s private school. Inside of this history museum, there are various theme exhibits. The reasons why it is the most special display are it includes not just SMU, but a history of the women’s education movement in Korea. At the opening ceremony, the president of SMU as well as many professors celebrated the opening and took pride in our school. Im Junghyuck, a professor of history and culture and the museum director of SMU said, “It is a most important thing for researchers’ efforts of collecting and exhibiting artifacts. Also, I’m very happy to find our school’s history properly. Also, our ethnic group’s spirit is included of this history center. So, we should take pride of the museum. This is a fact many people ignore. History is like air and water. Both of those are so important, but we don’t care in ordinary life. But if they disappear, we cannot live. It is the same as history which guides us and suggests direction like a compass. Therefore we protect our treasure, history.” From now on, we will set our recording in succession. Like us who feel proud of the past, our future generations will also preserve ours. We make a new prospect in SMU’s history and future.
