Google goes Gaga. This is the title of this video. Google’s fun and unique questions combined with exciting answers from today’s pop icon Lady Gaga made this lecture attractive. At first, before listening to the lecture, I only concentrated on the musician, Lady Gaga. However, after watching, I came to know her as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, which is her real name, as a human being just like everyone else.
Yes. Her music videos recorded the most hits on YouTube and her name Gaga was the top word that was searched on Google in 2009 and 2010. She is the living icon of music. Yet, her life wasn’t that easy till she reached where she is today. At the time when she was in school, she was bullied due to her uniqueness. Many people go through heartbreaking events through their lives, including being bullied. People tend to hide and try to forget these shameful pasts. But people cannot forget and also cannot admit it. Gaga said, “My bullied past is still in my heart. You call me superstar, but I was never a winner, but a loser. That experience is still in me.” However, she was different. She didn’t try to hide it. One of her songs titled, “Born this way” tells her heartbreaking story. This music tells people, “This is me. Even the parts I don’t want are what I am!” Her courage to admit her dark side and the confidence she got by that are respectable. The things that hinder people from moving on cannot be made as if they never happened before. It will never be forgotten and will be just as it is. So if people only try to look away from their darkness, one day they can fall into a trap that they made for themselves. To change this future, people have to learn to look into their shadows. Like Lady Gaga, if one could also love their sad and dark pasts, and forgive themselves, wouldn’t they be one step closer to happiness?

Gaga’s song, “Born this Way,” has the line, "Don't hide yourself in regret." It means do not be tied up by the past and concentrate on now and future. I hope Sookmyungians find their queen in their inner hearts and become confident. Find a superstar hidden inside you and make it shine. “I believe that fame is not earned. It is inside you. All you have to do is be confident about yourself.”
Lady Gaga was not a star who was built in a day. She was a hard trained pianist and a jazz musician. From when she was eleven, she was trained by her teacher called Don Laurence. And even now, after 10 years from then, she is still training with her teacher every single day. She is called a genius, but people tend to ignore those efforts and tears that it took to become a genius. Lots say, “I am not a genius so I can’t become the top globally.” Yet, genius can be made. If one could be confident in him or her own self and put effort like Gaga for something they wish every single day, they can surely become the VIP in the field they wish.
Lady Gaga is also loved and acknowledged by her creativity. Her shocking outfits, lyrics, and performances are unprecedented and full of creativity. She sure is different from ordinary people. People find it hard to find their creativeness but long for it. However, creativity is not far away from us. It’s just that we are afraid of being different from others and look away. People cannot see their specialty and distinctness whether they have it. Because they ignore it, they cannot find the diamond inside them. Don’t ignore your thoughts because they sound too awkward compared to what you learned from society. Make a note and write down what comes into your mind frankly. Catch short and passing thoughts that you have been ignoring. It will form the basis of your creativity. Gaga said, “I am a creative person. And ideas always just come to me. The most important thing with creativity is that you have to respect your creativity and never ignore it or go against what creative image is telling you because of what society is projecting on you.”
Gaga and Googlians’ conversation provided lots of lessons. Why she is loved by millions and millions of people worldwide was that she learned to love herself first. Look into the mirror and see yourself. Are you in love with you?
