Nobel Prize winner Professor Kurt Wuthrich had a lecture for Sookmyung Women’s University students on March 20th. He received a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for Protein Structure Interpretation using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) in 2002. The topic of the lecture was, “Exploring the protein universe with tools of physical chemistry. ” The lecture took place at the College of Pharmacy B107 at 5 p. m. This event was held by the Department of Chemistry at SMU and supported by the Research Institute of Natural Sciences, and the Research Institute of Women’s Health. Prof. Kurt Wuthrich said, “Find what you feel interesting. In my case, when I taught PE (Physical Education) before, I was excited about hemoglobin which supplies oxygen to our blood, so I started my study. At a result, I became Nobel Laureate now. ” Also, when asked how we can make a Nobel Laureate in Korea, he answered, “Universities and Institutes should employ foreign scientists for increasing their diversity and raising criticism experts. ” Hong Kyunggwang, Department of Biological Science ’13, said, “I do not major in Chemistry, but attending a lecture of a Nobel prize winner was exciting to me. As Prof. Wuthrich lectured focusing on the fundamentals, I could understand it easily. ”
