In the second semester of 2023, the Job Plus Center on campus prepared a lecture series: "Announcer Academy." In this session, three announcers who are alumnae of Sookmyung Women's University were invited to give a lecture on different dates. Among them, Jung Mi-sun, who graduated from the Department of Consumer Economics, gave a speech which was titled The World of a News Anchor on September 22 in Renaissance Plaza. She started by presenting a simple quiz about Korean orthography. She showed a video of her daily routine as a morning news anchor. In the video, she prepared and practiced her anchor speech after checking a cue sheet and article several times. Then she talked about the virtues of being an anchor, the required know-how to write and revise anchor comments, and the process of anchor selection. She said that anchors should react instantly to unexpected situations, judge the context of an article, and provide delivery for clear understanding of viewers. Students could see the sample of the anchor's speech lines and she explained how to write and revise them in detail. To end the speech, she provided some advice for the students by saying, "You can go forward doing what you want when you believe in yourself." After the lecture, a student in the Department of Consumer Economics '23, Kim Chae-eun, said "She was the anchor of <SBS Morning Wide>, the program I watched every morning at 6 a.m. when I was a high school student. It was a great honor to meet her in person. Moreover, as it is related to my career path, this time became an opportunity for me to strengthen my dream and faith in myself." Through this meeting, attendees could understand the job of an announcer more clearly and learn about preparing for employment in this field. For students who dream of becoming an announcer, the experience and advice of an alumna who is currently working in that field is helpful in that they can take a step closer to the job.
