Hello, Sookmyungians! It's my first greeting to you as the Editor-in-Chief of The Sookmyung Times, and I'm filled with a pleasant sense of nervousness and excitement. March is the month when school is back in full swing and students are taking new classes, meeting new professors, and experiencing all sorts of new things.
Do you have any goals you want to accomplish when school starts that you thought about over winter vacation? I've set a small goal for myself this year to actively use the school library. Having goals, no matter how big or small they are, seems to be a driving force in life. However, sometimes goals can make me feel stressed and helpless in the process of accomplishing them.
A trick I use when I'm in this situation is to imagine a "room of the mind." I like to use the phrase "having rooms of the mind" to describe the things I love. I describe my favorite hobbies, like watching animation or making beaded bracelets, as the master bedroom, an attic, or a tiny room, depending on the size of the love. As I add to these rooms, I find myself enriched. When I'm feeling overwhelmed by the things I need to do or mentally exhausted, imagining my favorite rooms helps me feel refreshed. I hope you can find your own way to get through your struggles and accomplish your goals, even if it's not this way. You can do it!
