On the 15th and 16th of November, SMU held its university entrance essay exam in the Myungshin, Queen Sunheon, and Science Buildings. After receiving their KSAT scores, students who had gotten the minimum standard grade required to take the essay exam were invited to SMU to take the admissions test. SMU has a number of nonscheduled admissions. In total there are about 10 different kinds, and this year SMU had its highest acceptance rate on the essay exam, which had a 25:1 ratio this year. 8,835 students applied for the SMU entrance essay test this year. However, the number was higher last year at about 29:1 or 14,774 students. The most competitive major was for entrance into the Department of Social Psychology. 240 students applied but only 6 were selected. Contrary to this result, the major that had the lowest competition rate was the Department of Nano Physics, with a ratio of about 12:1. One applicant, Choi Minjae, third grade student in Dongtan High school said, “From middle school I dreamt of entering the field of law. Because SMU has a law college, I applied to the Department of Law to learn more about my interest.”
