On January 13th to the 16th and again on the 27th to the 30th, ‘Firework-Camp’ for newly enrolled first year students was held.  It was hosted by the Leadership General Education Institute.  The Leadership General Education Institute representative said, “The frosh were able to experience school life before entering so it was very helpful for them.  Also, they were able to become close to the upper year students.”  Frosh gathered in Centennial Hall at the Samsung Convention Center.  The camp was for students who had received early admission to SMU from the admission officer evaluation.  Students who successfully completed the programs received one academic credit.  All participants lodged in the school dormitory for 4 nights and 5 days.  During the camp, students participated in the SM-STANCE program three times.  This program teaches one to learn independently as well as with others.  It helps students reflect on themselves and find a future career.  The program aids frosh to communicate and understand others.  Moreover, students who participated received useful tips about university life.  Many frosh asked specific questions about university life and upper year students provided the answers.  Later, students had the chance to go on a field trip to various school museums and watch a musical as well.  Kim Kyuwon, Department of Chinese Language and Literature ’15 said, “Thanks to this camp I was able to learn a lot of things about our university.  Also, because I made a lot of new friends from this camp, I am not worried about starting school this year.”
