From Tuesday August 2nd to Wednesday August 3rd, 2016, the Admissions Centre and the College of Engineering at Sookmyung Women’s University joined to host the Future of IT software Experience Camp. The camp ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and was free to any high school student interested in IT software and Sookmyung Women’s University. Registration for the program was done on the school homepage from July 5th to 22nd. About 40 students joined the camp on each of the respective days. Professor Park Hwajin, Department of Information Technology Engineering, said, “I was surprised by the amount of interest in the IT industry and Sookmyung Women’s University we received from high school students, especially those students living in rural areas.” The camp was composed of three programs: special lectures, practical training, and a tour of the 3D printing facilities at Sookmyung Women’s University. Students sat in on lectures about how to ‘plan for an IT job in the future’ and ‘technology of the future software industry.’ The lectures aimed at having students sincerely reflect on their wants and nurture their future dreams. Professors had students take a firsthand role in their learning by creating practical training sessions like IOT and Arduino computer programming. The camp also gave students the chance to tour Sookmyung Women’s University and visit its newly constructed engineering laboratory. At the end of the program, participating students received a certificate of completion.
