From March 5 to 7, Haeoreum Festival was held on Campus I. It’s a welcoming festival for freshmen and gives university clubs, leadership groups, and the student council an opportunity to promote their activities. On each day of the festival, clubs and leadership groups operated booths that were decorated. One of the SM-PAIR’s booth’s operators, Kim Hyojin from the Department of English Language & Literature ’18 said, “We joined the festival to promote our club. Although there were many students who were a bit perplexed because of application process to join, they showed great interest. All of the application requirements are not essential, so I hope students will not be afraid of applying. Also, when visiting club booths, students will be offered a small gift just for dropping by, so I hope students to visit several booths.” Like Kim’s club, many clubs prepared a small brochure that highlighted the purpose and activities of their clubs and handed out small gifts to visitors. During the two day festival, students visited booths they are interested in and listened to explanations of clubs’ activities. One of the visitors of The Sookmyung Times, Son Minji, Department of Law ’19, said, “Through the Haeoreum Festival, I learned about clubs I didn’t know before. There are so many diverse and helpful clubs, so it was really a prime opportunity to apply for a club.” Like Son, first year students had the opportunity to learn about the various clubs on campus through this festival. In addition, the Association of Clubs set up a sticker board that could record students’ club booth visitations for more active participation. Especially at 2:30 p.m. on March 7, clubs and leadership groups performed at Queen Sunheon crossroad, so in addition to enjoying visits to club booths, students also enjoyed live performances. Through this festival, SMT also hopes that Sookmyungians start the new semester more meaningfully.
