On February 22, 2012, SMU’s entrance ceremony for freshmen was held in Jamsil gymnasium. The entrance ceremony was divided into three parts, and during the first part all new Sookmyungians watched SMU’s promoting video. Watching this video, they can know more about SMU and can feel the pride of being a Sookmyungian. After the video, freshmen had time to learn and sing the school song. Actual entrance ceremony started with second part. At first SMU’s twelve academic fields of study entered the hall holding their flags which show their own colors. And after their march, professors and President Youngsil Han entered, too. Celebrating admission of freshmen, President Han said, “Direction is more important than speed. Therefore develop the power of thinking by reading many books. The higher a bird flies, the further it can see. SMU will show you how to fly high and how to design your dream with the power of thinking, challenging and creating,” in the welcome statement. Meanwhile, FC Sookmyung (soccer club) received the honor of this year sookmyung family. The third and final part was composed of fancy celebrations. At first, chamcham, who won the popularity award in 2011 university song festival, heated the atmosphere. After chamcham, SMU's the only dance club MAX and cheering squad NiViS were shaking the stadium enthusiastically. After the entrance ceremony ended, all freshmen went to the place where
college orientation would be held.
